Upcoming hikes and camps →Two fairytale nights in the Lastiver cave
This year we have already been to Lastiver twice. Our goal was not only to enjoy the beauty of the Khachaghbyur Gorge and its views full of small waterfalls, but also to spend the night right in the Lastiver cave.
The first time we went in colder weather, the second time in completely warm weather. Each visit had its own atmosphere: on one, nature was covered with a white blanket of snow, and on the other, with fresh, budding green and white flowers.
On both hikes the children had also brought fishing rods with them, hoping to catch fish. It didn’t work out, but that didn’t stop them: their enthusiasm and effort were worth even more.
The experience of spending the night in a cave
Spending a whole day and a night in a cave seemed to take us back thousands of years, to the times when people found their first shelter in caves on their path to survival. Sleeping in such a place gave a special sense of natural calm and safety, as if we were in a familiar environment.
The warmth of the stove and the play of the fire filled the cave atmosphere. And the view opening from the window, of forest, river, gorge and misty rocks, gave everything the look of an artistic film.
The children cooked potato pilaf on the stove. The taste was indescribable, because everyone had taken part in the cooking. Before going to sleep we played, chatted a lot, and then the cave fell silent, and at midnight the only thing in the air was the calm breathing of the children.
The end of the hike and the limitations
The next day, after a good night’s sleep, we packed up and came back. The one “minus” of these hikes is that we can’t go with a big group, since the ideal number in the cave is about ten participants. But that’s okay. We’ll go in autumn too 🍂
Why this is valuable for children
These hikes aren’t just adventures. They are a real school in the embrace of nature. Spending the night in a cave, gathering around the fire, cooking together, walking in the mountains and simply listening to the silence shape values that aren’t taught in the classroom:
👉 independence
👉 responsibility
👉 teamwork
👉 respect for nature
A call to parents
If you’re thinking about giving your children an experience like this, don’t hesitate. Nature is always ready to welcome us with its simplicity, purity and the deep meaning hidden in its silence.
