Ascent of Mount Kalasar

The children’s hiking day on October 20, 2026 will take place in the Vayots Dzor region. We’ll be climbing Mount Kalasar, which stands at 2,230 m.

We’ll start the ascent from the village of Hermon. Some sections of the walls of Kalasar Fortress are still preserved at the summit. It’s believed that this fortress is older than Smbataberd, evidenced by the absence of mortar in the surviving walls. Bezoar goats are often seen around the fortress area, and we may be lucky enough to spot one — if, of course, we manage to keep quiet, which is unlikely during a hike with children.

And of course, what would Kalasar be without a photo on this year’s most popular rock?

The hike is also suitable for children with no prior mountain-hiking experience.
