Children’s Ascent of Mount Sevazhayr
On Sunday, the “4 Peaks” youth mountain club organized an unforgettable hike to one of the most beautiful places in Vayots Dzor: Mount Sevazhayr. The hike began early in the morning: leaving behind the silence of Yerevan and the summer coolness, we set off at 6 a.m. The road took us south, where the nature of Vayots Dzor opened up its colorful panoramas. Our destination, Mount Sevazhayr, captivates from the very first glance with its expressive rocky summit, which seems to rise out of the endless green valley. The group photo taken at the foot of the mountain speaks for itself about the beauty of the mountain and the challenge awaiting us.
Sevazhayr is one of those mountains that makes you not just climb up and come back down, but stop, look for a long time and quietly study the story carved into its stones, discovering something new at every turn. The mountain rises with powerful, almost wall-like vertical rocks, which give it an impregnable and harsh look, and for a long time it seems impossible to climb to the summit. But the mountain reveals its true beauty only to those who dare to overcome its rocky heights. And the group of children was one of those daring ones.
The most adventurous part of the hike was climbing to the summit of the mountain. In the final rocky section, every step required concentration and confidence. But all the participants, including the little ones, showed strong willpower and supported one another throughout the way. That was a real victory for our group.
From the 2,727-meter height of Mount Sevazhayr, the mountains and gorges of Vayots Dzor paint fairytale panoramas, including the Teksar and Vardenis Mountains and Mount Vayotssar, inspiring us to plan ascents in those directions too.
Throughout the whole day, adventure, education and a friendly atmosphere were intertwined. By the time we returned to Yerevan, around 21:30, we were all tired, but full of smiles and pride in our new victory.
