Children’s Hike from Jukhtak Monastery to Matosavank — 4 Peaks

Children’s Hike from Jukhtak Monastery to Matosavank

This time the hiking trail took us to the Tavush region, following the traces of historical and cultural sites. We visited Jukhtak Monastery (12th century) and Matosavank (13th century). Jukhtak Monastery consists of two separate churches, Surb Astvatsatsin and Surb Grigor, as well as the cemetery surrounding them. Matosavank includes a small church, a gavit and a book depository, located side by side. Both monasteries are located in Dilijan National Park.

The weather was surprisingly warm for winter, even hot. Although we had lit a campfire, we gathered around the fire mainly to roast marshmallows and jump over the fire. With cheerful chatter, snowflakes flying in the air and laughter, we covered the hiking trail, enriching our knowledge of history and culture.

We walked 4 km, covering 200 m of elevation gain.
