Khamshi Monastery

On June 27, 2026, we will hike along a beautiful forest trail in the Gegharkunik region. We will visit Khamshi Monastery, which was one of the most prominent monastic complexes in the Miaphor district of the Utik province. The monastery was founded in the 9th–10th centuries and survived until the mid-13th century. After exploring the monastery grounds, we will head down to the banks of the Getik River for some games. This hike is suitable for beginners and children without prior hiking experience—and why not for parents too? At the same time, it is a great way to relax for children who have participated in more difficult treks. After unwinding by the Getik River, we will board the vehicle and head toward Lake Sevan. We will light a bonfire on the shore, cool our feet in the chilly waters of Sevan, enjoy a pleasant time, and return to Yerevan.

How to prepare for the hike:
1. A bandana to protect ears from the wind,
2. Sun hat,
3. Sunscreen,
4. Sunglasses,
5. Wear a thin long-sleeved top,
6. A cardigan or thin jacket,
7. Wear sports pants (no jeans); participating in the hike in shorts is not allowed,
8. Hiking boots with thick soles, preferably waterproof,
9. Raincoat,
10. Gaiters (optional),
11. Walking stick, if you have one,
12. Wear long socks (at least 15 cm above the ankles),
13. 1.5 L of water,
14. Food,
15. Pack all of the above in a backpack,
16. Depending on the weather: a change of socks and shoes.
