Mount Mets Lchasar — 4 Peaks

Mount Mets Lchasar

The Geghama Mountains are a fairytale range set in the stony heart of the Armenian world, where everything is different. Rising from the depths of the ages, this volcanic range stretches its peaks toward the clouds, while below it spread rolling meadows covered with colorful flowers and, in winter, an endless white carpet.

Walking in the Geghama Mountains means being in harmony with nature, feeling the breath of the land and enjoying the taste of freedom. Here, the mind takes wing.

And it was to see this beauty and enjoy pleasant sensations that we went to Mount Mets Lchasar, one of the peaks of the Geghama Mountains. It is 2,393 m high and lies a little apart from the Geghama Mountains. We started the ascent from the village of Lchashen.

It’s worth mentioning the archaeological monuments of Lchashen, which are part of an important archaeological heritage of the Republic of Armenia. Excavations here have uncovered prehistoric settlements, fortresses, burial grounds and individual artifacts. The war chariots and carts found in Lchashen, as well as numerous archaeological finds, are among the most valuable treasures of the History Museum of Armenia. We told the children these and many other details during the hike, combining knowledge with physical activity.

Although it was hot in Yerevan, Lchashen village greeted us with a pleasant, gentle breeze. Clearly, the “hands of the mine” have reached here too. Getting close to Mount Mets Lchasar, the road passes beside another beautiful cone-shaped peak, Tsornasar, whose eastern slope looks as if it has been cut away, giving the mountain a strange appearance.

When you start to reach the depths of the Geghama Mountains, reality begins to change. Volcanic peaks and green meadows appear all around, the air fills with birdsong and the buzzing of insects, and the longer you walk, also with the children’s endless questions.

From the summit, a view opened toward Lake Sevan, which looked like a blue mirror laid out among giant mountains. The sun played on the waves, while the clouds danced with their shadows on the glassy surface of the lake.

On the summit we played different games, rested, took photos and started the descent.

  • Distance covered: 11 km
  • Elevation gain: 450 m
  • Summit height: 2,393 m

We shared this experience with the children, leaving in them not only memories but also roots. Roots that will one day grow into a love of nature, curiosity about history, and a desire to know and protect our homeland.

The mountains teach us to endure, to overcome, to marvel and to be grateful. And when you look at Sevan from above, for a moment it becomes clear: your heart belongs to this land.
