Upcoming hikes and camps →Yesterday, with our young hikers, we climbed Mount Shara (2,475 m) in the Shirak region. According to legend, the name is connected with the name of Shara, the legendary ruler of Shirak.
The road wasn’t easy: to reach the summit we walked 5 km and covered 450 m of elevation gain, crossing the snow-covered slopes of the mountain. And there was a lot of snow.
The children amazed us with their willpower and resilience. They not only overcame the challenges, but also broke trail themselves, taking turns leading the whole group. It was a real test, but they outdid themselves and became the true heroes of this hike.
On the way back, another wonderful view awaited us: the colors of the sunset were enchanting against the background of snow-covered fields and mountains. Along the way we met foxes a few times, while the sky played with us: one moment blue and clear, then snowy and misty. The northern summit of Aragats kept emerging from the clouds and then disappearing again, adding its own mysterious beauty to this wonder of nature.
Although we had also planned to go down to the unique layered rocks shaped by the wind at the foot of the mountain, we didn’t take the risk. The slope leading down to the rocks was quite steep, and in that section the layer of snow was deep and frozen in places. We decided to avoid slipping and possible avalanches, didn’t take any risks, and left the pleasure of seeing the rocks for another time. We were convinced once again that the greatest secret to overcoming the power of nature is willpower and team spirit.
