Sunset at the Azat Reservoir — 4 Peaks

Sunset at the Azat Reservoir

Planned several times but postponed because of unfavorable weather, the day of enjoying the sunset at the Azat Reservoir finally came. This Sunday, on December 1, 2024, we finally made it.

Of course, at midday the sky over Yerevan was covered with clouds, which made us a little tense, but when we arrived, the sun greeted us, stretching its rays through the clouds and opening a path to the blue sky.

We started walking from the village of Lanjazat: sometimes appearing in the valley, sometimes at the foot of the hills, sometimes very close to the reservoir’s shore, and sometimes up on the heights, from where the Azat Reservoir and the Yeranos Mountains looked like they were in the palm of your hand. And by the way, the Azat Reservoir and its surroundings have an otherworldly beauty. At first two dogs joined us, then three, and in the end four 🙂

When we reached the spot where we were to wait for the sunset, we started preparing the campfire. We roasted marshmallows over the flickering flames, packed up, and started waiting for the beauty with great anticipation.

The sunset was beautiful. The sky was painted in rich colors: white, pink, orange and crimson tones. The sun slowly approached the horizon, as if sending its last rays to the world. Its soft light was reflected on the reservoir and the mountains, creating interesting colors. As the sun went down, the sky went through changes of color. It seemed as if the world had stopped making noise and time had stopped.

This time too, the children’s hike was memorable and valuable.
