Victory of 100: Ascent of Mount Ara — 4 Peaks

Victory of 100: Ascent of Mount Ara

On May 28 we made the traditional ascent of Mount Ara.

Just as our state must fight for its independence and reach victory through difficulties, so we too fought against the steep slopes of Mount Ara and the scorching sun, and stood victoriously on the summit.

For the ascent we had chosen a not-so-easy route: the right slope from Tsaghkevank. The choice was not accidental: we are already starting to make the tasks we have set ourselves harder, in order to carry out the big program planned for August. 100 people took part in the ascent, 74 of whom were children, can you imagine?

Fortunately, everyone managed to reach the summit, showing great willpower and endurance. Of course, this was also thanks to the members of the “Armenian Federation of Alpinism and Mountain Tourism” who accompanied the group.

Along the way we met snakes, including venomous ones, but thanks to the knowledge gained during the lessons, we behaved correctly and safely continued the ascent.

This ascent was also unique because the author of the book “The Secret of the Vishapakar”, Artavazd Yeghiazaryan, was with us. Settled in a circle on the summit, we began the discussion of the book, with many questions addressed to our now beloved writer. So that you can picture what the book is about, here is a small excerpt: “Vazgen sat down on the summit of the mountain and admired the sun. He thought how amazing it is that he had returned to active life after such a long time and was now resting on a mountain named after a man he had come to know very well during his time as an animal. His head began to spin; he remembered how he had once been with Ara, whom, back in Vazgen’s presence, people had started to call the Beautiful; although, in his own personal dragon opinion, Ara didn’t stand out for any remarkable beauty… after all, one day they had been hunting with Ara right here.” What is pictured in words also became visible thanks to the ascent of Mount Ara. Read this book too, and you won’t regret it!

Despite the difficulties of the road, already in the cars the children were interested in the next ascent. This too is a great victory, when difficulty doesn’t scare you, but motivates you.

Thus, on May 28 we walked 10.5 km and covered 985 m of elevation gain.
