The Chukar Trail — 4 Peaks

The Chukar Trail

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, we headed to the Vayots Dzor region to enjoy the honey-sweet autumn sun and the colors typical of Vayots Dzor, along with the rocky cliffs of the Gnishik Gorge. During the hike we had the chance to see Noravank from another viewpoint; it is one of Armenia’s most magnificent and unique monasteries. This trail got its name from the incredibly beautiful chukar partridge (karakakav) bird. If we had been lucky, we could have seen both chukars and bezoar goats, but considering our noisy voices, of course, we didn’t see a single animal. Part of this trail coincides with the “Bezoar Trail”, where the goats are usually visible from observation points located there. The route is easy. In total we walked 7.5 km. After the end of the hike, we also went to see the Areni mudflow barrier. It is one of Armenia’s unique structures.
