From Antarut to Amberd
On November 12, 2023, we were in the Aragatsotn region. We had decided to walk from the village of Antarut to Amberd Fortress. Located about 40 minutes from Yerevan, this trail is one of the best hiking routes. Although the Aragatsotn region isn’t usually associated with forests, a large part of this trail passes through forest, a small section through a gorge, and at the end we start walking along the gorge. The diversity of nature is fascinating, especially when you come out of the forest and the valley of the Arkashen River opens up before you, on whose heights stand Amberd Fortress (10th–13th centuries) and the Katoghike Vahramashen Church (1026). Thanks to this route, we admired both nature and the values created by people.
We walked 7.1 km and covered 470 m of elevation gain.
